What Are The Best Temperatures For Vaping Weed?

When it comes to vaping your cannabis, it can be difficult for some to know what temperature is best. This is especially true for those that may be new to the vaping experience.

It could be that no set temperature suits everyone. Vaping cannabis can deliver effects in varying degrees depending on the temperature you use, so the temperature is very important, so you need to be well informed with vaporizers before making a purchase. A better than average vaporizer will give you the chance to experiment with the entourage effect.

If you use very high temperatures, you can actually burn your plant material and this is especially true if you are using a conduction vaporizer.

There is a big difference between a conduction vaporizer and a convection vaporizer.

With a conduction vaporizer, the plant material comes into direct contact with the heat source of the vaporizer, and the cannabis can become scorched if the temperature is too high.

With a convection vaporizer, the plant material is heated from the hot air the heat source creates and the air is circulated throughout the cannabis which prevents scorching.

The list below can help you determine what temperature setting you need to use to access various different cannabis compounds with your particular vaping device:

Terpenes:

  • Caryophyllene oxide: 495°F / 257°C
  • Phytol: 399°F / 204°C
  • Humulene: 388°F / 198°C
  • Linalool: 388°F / 198°C
  • Terpinolene: 365°F / 185°C
  • Limonene: 349°F / 176°C
  • Citronellol: 437°F / 225°C
  • β-Myrcene: 334°F / 168°C
  • β-Caryophyllene: 320°F / 165°C

Cannabinoids:

  • THC: 315°F / 157°C
  • THCa: 220°F / 104°C
  • THCv: 428°F / 220°C
  • CBD: 356°F / 180°C
  • CBDa: 248°F / 120°C
  • CBC: 428°F / 220°C
  • CBG: 126°F / 52°C
  • CBN: 365°F / 185°C

Vaping At Lower Temperatures

One of the main cannabis compounds is THC. The THC has a boiling point of 315° F. If you vape any lower than 325° F, you aren’t likely to feel very much of anything, if at all.

Low temperature for vaping is considered to be about 325 ° F up to 350° F. You could refer to these lower temperatures as lightly toasting the cannabis.

When vaping at low temperatures the effects you will get from your cannabis are likely to be much more subdued.

Low temperatures are great for those that want to get the best flavor from their weed. It will have a fresher taste. The vapor that is created will also be cooler. cooler vape means it will also be less irritating to your throat and lungs. This could help to reduce coughing as well.

Other side effects of cannabis can be reduced too, like getting very red eyes will lessen and your mouth may not get as dry. Some people experience paranoia when they smoke weed, but vaping at a lower temperature can help reduce paranoia.

Also, the high that you do get can be less and you shouldn’t feel as intoxicated, but you still gain the calming effect that so many seek.

Vaping at low temps can be a good choice when you have a lot to get done or if you get intoxicated very easily like some that are new to vaping can get.

Vaping At Medium Temperatures

Vaping in a temperature range of about 350° F up to 400° F is usually considered medium to high. At this temperature range, you might consider your weed to be half baked.

Within these temperatures, you will get a lot of terpenes, which relate to the aroma and fragrance, as well as more cannabinoids. For those that are still experimenting or just becoming familiar with smoking their weed, this is a great range to start in to see what cannabinoids or terpenes you may need more or less of.

The vapor that you get within this range will be warmer and thicker when compared to a lower temperature setting. The cannabinoids will have more taste at higher temps.

A warmer vapor can be more pleasant and satisfying for smokers that are transitioning.

One of the main effects that will be increased with a higher temperature will be the psychoactive effects. It will be much stronger because there is more THC is released.

This can provide you with a more relaxed and usually a more euphoric effect. Your meditative state can be improved without causing you to feel as sleepy or tired.

If you want your effects from the weed to be around the middle ground, then these are the temperatures you should shoot for. However, there could be more risk for some coughing with the higher temp range.

Vaping At The Highest Temperatures

To take advantage of the most cannabinoids that you can get from your cannabis, the highest vaping temperatures are recommended. The CBD, CBG, and THC are all more accessible at a higher temperature.

The vapor you get will be at its hottest level without being literally burned, but it will also be less flavorful. If terpenes are not your main concern, then you will not miss that much.

However, if you are interested in the highest level of psychotropic effects that you can achieve, then higher temperatures are what you want.

If you have trouble sleeping at night, then this might be the most suitable time for high temp vaping because it can cause more lethargy and sleepiness. When this stage of a high is reached, it is often referred to as couch-lock.

When the compounds of THCv and humulene are activated, it can help suppress your appetite and prolong munchy desires.

If you want to really get the best high from your weed, you should save the highest temperatures for last. This is the best way to vape for the maximum high without having to light up your weed.

It is good to note that when vaping at the highest temperature range also comes the risk of more throat and lung irritation as well as more coughing.

According to written literature, bio-availability from smoking is in same ball park as oral. Smoking rips the lungs out.

My grasshopper io operates from 230°f to 430°f. Mixing strains with diverse terp profiles (to get a wide spectrum). Not sure why but the 230°f first hit is almost nauseating, it’s so strong. Presumably only the lightest most aromatic compounds are mobilized at that temp. Terpenoid boiling points are higher than 230°f but the hit is pure flavor at that temp so it almost has to be terpenoids. I’m attending they tend to take flight at temperatures below the boiling point, maybe in the face of forceful convection heat. Try it!

For me 400 is perfect to fill the bag with the most potent mixture. I can still taste the twerps and after two or three good inhales you develope a case CRS and thats all she wrote. Especially if your materials are of top, top, top shelf quality. Yeah that’s the stuff.
